About
Welcome to the Power Electronics Systems and Informatics Laboratory (PESIL) at the University of British Columbia (UBC)!
Our long-term research mission is to develop advanced operation strategies and power electronics technologies to enable power-electronics-based power grids, such as HVDC/AC transmission systems and AC/DC microgrids. Our work supports the large-scale integration of modern energy resources and loads and the modernization of legacy electric power systems.
In particular, we are currently investigating the following topics, with a focus on these key questions:
- Grid-forming and grid-following converter controls: How can we ensure the stability and reliable operation of power-electronics-based grids?
- Solid-state circuit breakers and transformers: How can we efficiently interconnect, control, and protect different parts of power-electronics-based grids?
- Cyber-security in power electronics systems: How can we keep power-electronics-based grids secure?
